Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, support those affected, and highlight the importance of early detection.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Canada. It is estimated that approximately 32,400 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2026, representing 26% of all new cancer cases in women. On average, 89 women are diagnosed every day, and 15 women lose their lives to the disease each day.1

While these statistics are significant, there is reason for hope. Thanks to advances in screening, diagnosis, and treatment, about 89% of Canadian women diagnosed with breast cancer survive five years or more.2

Though ongoing advocacy efforts continue to improve access to care and support for Canadians affected by breast cancer, the financial impact of a diagnosis can be significant. At Sutton, we recognize that recovery involves more than medical treatment. Our Group Critical Illness Insurance provides a tax-free lump-sum payment upon diagnosis of a covered condition, including many forms of cancer, helping individuals manage expenses, seek additional care options, or focus on their well-being and recovery with greater peace of mind.

This month, we encourage everyone to learn about breast health, participate in recommended screening programs, and support those impacted by breast cancer. Together, through awareness, education, and early detection, we can help make a difference.
